R.I.P Xiao Guai Guai

by Jonathan Tsou on Mar.07, 2010, under My Daily Life

Xiao Guai Guai is the name that my mom gave to a Hill Myna Bird that we bought when we lived in DaQian about 8 years ago. He died on 3/3/2010. According to my sister, he was not talking and was lying on the bottom of his cage. We have alway took him as a our family member. I still remember the first day when we bought him. Me and my sister were waiting in the DongFeng Van while my dad and mom went to the Flower and Bird Market, as what the local people call it, to buy some flowers. Then bought a lot of red flowers and then a bird cage. The cage was covered so i could see what was in there. My dad told me not to take a peek because the bird will be scared. Xiao Guai Guai was a bird that could learn how to talk like a human. We trained him how to say Ni Hao(hello”), Xiao Guai Guai, Xiao Guai, and laughing sound. When we laugh on the phone he would laugh too.

He tried to escape a lot of times in the first year. Once he escape and me and my sister rushed out to find him. Even the guards at our compound helped. Then he was found in another guys house. Another time it was around 8pm while i was trying to take him into the house, because his cage is hanged on the tree during the day, his removable bottom fell and he flew out. I ran immediately and caught him on a white sewer pipe. He was screaming and panting heavily.

I didnt like to change him excretion. We put some newspaper on the bottom to let him poop on it. We had to change it every 2 or 3 days. When I go take a shower and i would take him with me. And i would pour some water on him.

When we lived in DaTang. We put him on the little balcony. Then one day a piece of glass that was put on the balcony fell. it block the main access to the balcony.  It also broke his cage. The only access is to climb through the tiny window. We were watching xiao guai guai sitting on the edge of the balcony, looking very confused. Thank god he did not move a bit. My sister was able to go thru the window and open the door. She took her into the apartment and i gave him some water. He looked shocked. then mom quickly sewed a piece of cloth to cover but the hole. then the next day or so we went to buy a new cage. A blue steel cage with had 3 stories. We thought he would jump on and off but he didnt. He stayed on the 2nd floor. It must of been tough sleeping on the 2nd floor fearing that he would fall. It was a durable cage but then we bought a new wooden cage since the steel one is starting to rust.

Thank you, Xiao Guai Guai for the great time you have been with me and my family for the times we were in Shanghai.  Thank you.

Home Depot-Blinds-Pho-Install

by Jonathan Tsou on Feb.12, 2010, under My Daily Life

Today i went to home depot to buy some blinds for the house. My old blinds are old and really dirty. They are black in color which makes the house look really dark and old. So my grandma and i went to home depot to check out some blinds. we didnt buy them first because we forgot to measure the height. We only measured the width. Since it was noon alredi we just drove to rowland heights to get some pho’. It was a long drive to the pho. On our way back we went to get drinking water since it was out. Then we went home brought grandma to The Social Security place to change his adress. He didnt receive his statements in a long time. It came out the it was always send to chino hills but not our house. after waiting for like some 15 people for the SS we went to home depot again to grab the blinds. it was easy to install but just takes a lot of hard work. It’s hard to screw the screws into the wall. once the blind cradle is mounted, all we have to do in just place the blind in the cradle. XD very productive day.

mi casa y yo

by Jonathan Tsou on Feb.04, 2010, under My Thoughts

There is a lot of times i feel like i am alone. I have friends but none of them really understand me except for like my 2 best friends thanakrit and gabriel. I never share a lot of my thoughts with other people idk why.

On facebook a lot of people are doing fun things like hiking, going to the mountains to ride ATVs etc. and i get to stay at home stare at my computer. i want to go out and see the world too. im american but i dont seem to noe america anymore. I came back to this beautiful land to explore it not to just sit at home, go to school and sleep. this is bs. My grandparents dont even take me anywhere. They wont leave a circumference of like 5 miles. theres nothing within 5 miles. everytime i take them to a new restaurant they  think its bad so we keep on eating the same pho and im sick of it already. i almost threw up last weekend when i ate it. I dont noe.i feel  helpless. this is not a life that i want.  sigh…

At the bank!

by Jonathan Tsou on Jan.09, 2010, under My Daily Life

today me and my grandparents went to Bank of America to figure something out about their mortage payment. The payments are transfered automatically from their bank account but they still receive a letter telling them to pay their mortage. When we arrive there a young lady came up to me and asked me what i wanted to do. then i told her the situation. then she helped us out. and idk why we ended up to create a new BOA account. Its good because its easier to mange stuff online with the new account. The young lady was very nice to us. Shes called Rachel. She looks like a white american but she can actually speak chinese and cantonese. Her last name is Chow becuase his father is from Hong Kong. Very interesting.

then we drove to the bank account they are using now and told them to create a online bank account.

learned a lot of things about banking today.

2 long hours at the medical center

by Jonathan Tsou on Dec.30, 2009, under My Daily Life

Today I went to a medical center with my grandparents. I thought it was going to be fast but the their doctor took forever. It took like 30mins to wait and another 1.5hr to do the actual heart check. I waited outside the whole time. Glad I bought my ipod cuz i knew it was going to be boring. But listening to ipod wasnt fun after like an hour. so i went to the car and listened to music on the loud speakers. After a while the cd player stopped working. I doesnt read cd-r’s that well. and plus i was afraid that when they are done, they wont be able to find me. I went back and found a seat besides a mexican family, both parents, a daughter and a son. their dad sat right next to me and started to ask me whether i was waiting for the doctor too. I said no i was waiting for my grandparents and he was like oh good boy. Then after a long moment of silence. he asked me what college i am in. and im like no im not in college im in high school and they;re like wtf. and he talked to me about life and careers. he told me:

life is all about studying now. you have to absorb as many things as you can. like when i was young i didnt get to go to school. so i went back to school to learn. and now im getting a decent life. But a lot of my friends that didnt study lost their direction in life. and they all retired early.

then i thought of my dad cuz he wants to retire now. hope i can still convince him to still work.

Got my provisional driver’s license!!

by Jonathan Tsou on Dec.24, 2009, under My Daily Life

I got my license! The drive test was effing easy! Only lasted for like 10mins. I thought it was going to be long. I didn’t even get to release my driving skills. jk I got 2 points off. One on locating the defroster, i located the rear defroster but not the front one. Then I drove 15mph in the DMV parking lot where I was only suppose to drive 5mph. I mean wtf 5mph is like slower than walking. But whatever even if i drove 30mph I still pass.
